Summer Sea-Doo Care Guide: Keep Your Ski Running Strong All Season
Summer means more days on the water, more riding with mates, and more time making the most of your Sea-Doo. To keep every ride smooth and stress-free, it’s worth giving your ski some regular care and attention. A few small checks during the hot months help prevent corrosion, overheating, and unexpected breakdowns that can cut your season short.
If you’re ever unsure or notice something that doesn’t look right, our workshop team at Coast & Country Powersports is always happy to help.
Quick Engine Check
The engine is the heart of your Sea-Doo, and small check ups every now and again ensure everything keeps running smoothly.
Make sure:
- Oil level is at the correct level, follow the instructions on the sticker located under the seat.
- Coolant level is between the min/max levels on the bottle.
- There are no leaks or unusual smells.
- Wash down the engine once cool, if saltwater has made its way into the engine bay, leave the seats off to allow it to dry out.
If you are due for an oil change or unsure when your last service was, book a Sea-Doo service with us and we’ll check everything properly.
Keep the Exhaust Cooling System Clear
Your Sea-Doo cools its exhuast using water pulled in through the Jetpump. If this flow is blocked by sand or seaweed, it can put unnecessary strain on the exhaust system.
Do this often:
- Flush the ski after every saltwater ride for only 1-1.5 mins.
- Clear any weeds from the intake grate.
- If you hear an overheat alarm, shut down and check immediately for the correct coolant level or obstructions in the intake grate.
If your Sea-Doo feels like it is struggling to get power, bring it in and we can diagnose/repair it to get you back on the water quicker.
Maintain the Battery
A healthy battery means no frustration at the boat ramp.
Tips:
- Use a trickle charger when the ski is sitting.
- Check battery terminals for corrosion.
- Make sure the battery terminals are tight.
- Ensure the battery strap is secure and inplace.
If the ski cranks slowly or has been unused for a while, we can test the battery for you at no cost.
Inspect the Jet Pump and Impeller
This area affects thrust, acceleration, and overall performance. Debris or impeller damage can cause vibration, or loss of power.
Look for:
- Sticks, sand, or rope in the intake.
- Chips in the impeller.
- Wear ring issues—such as excessive clearance or debris damage—can lead to vibrations during acceleration.
We inspect and clean this area in every service to keep your ski running at full potential.
Ride With Confidence This Summer
Staying on top of these simple checks keeps your Sea-Doo performing perfectly and helps avoid downtime during peak season. If you want your ski tuned, inspected, or fully serviced, we’re here to help.
